What Is A Lifestyle Newborn Photography?

In a lifestyle newborn photography session, I don’t simply take photos of your baby; I aim to document your whole family, capturing everything from the joy and chaos of older siblings with the baby to the quiet moments of the mother and baby.

All of my newborn photos are taken in a lifestyle newborn session style. This means that the focus is on capturing the natural connections within your family. Although I offer guidance on posing to capture the best light and settings, I do not physically position the baby in unnatural poses or use large props.

I enjoy lifestyle newborn photography because it provides a perfect blend of posed, portrait and documentary photography.

How to decide if a Lifestyle Newborn Photography Surrey Session is best for you

A lifestyle newborn session might be the perfect choice for you if:

  • You value capturing natural and candid moments during this special season.
  • You prefer a photography style that includes some posing guidance but doesn’t feel overly posed or staged.
  • Authenticity is important to you, and you want your photos to reflect real moments that truly resonate with you.
  • You appreciate a minimalist approach that emphasises the connections between family members.
  •  You are looking for a shorter photo session, typically lasting 1-2 hours. In comparison, posed newborn sessions can take longer, sometimes up to 3-4 hours, as they require more time to ensure the baby is deeply asleep and positioned in each pose.

Where Does The Lifestyle Session Take Place?

Lifestyle newborn sessions can be held either in my photo studio in Surrey or in the comfort of your own home.

In-home sessions are precisely as they sound – all the photos are taken in the comfort of your own home, usually emphasising the baby’s nursery or your living room. These sessions are designed to capture the essence of your life at this special moment: brimming with excitement, joy, laughter and boundless love.

EXAMPLES OF LIFESTYLE NEWBORN PHOTOGRAPHY SURREY:

In-home Newborn Photography OR Studio Newborn Photography Surrey?

I highly recommend considering an in-home newborn session, especially if you have an older child. Children, especially toddlers, feel more at ease in a familiar environment. Whenever I have done in-home family sessions, parents have been delighted with their decision, as their children hardly even noticed they were being photographed. It allows for a more natural and relaxed atmosphere, resulting in genuine and candid moments reflecting your family’s connection and happiness.

This becomes a collection of unique and heartfelt photographs that will hold a special place in your family’s story for years.

On the other hand, studio newborn photos are perfect for those who prefer a clean backdrop and a minimalist approach. This option allows for a more controlled environment, focusing mostly on your baby and its adorable features.

Whether you choose an in-home session or opt for studio photos, both options have their unique charm and offer beautiful results. It’s all about finding the style that best reflects your vision and preferences.

A newborn baby peacefully sleeps on a soft, beige blanket. The baby is wrapped in a delicate, lacy white cloth, resting one hand on their chest. Captured by a Surrey newborn photographer specializing in lifestyle newborn photography, the overall scene is cozy and serene, creating a warm and tender atmosphere.

How Long Does A Lifestyle Newborn Session Take?

During the session, you can expect it to last anywhere from 1-2 hours. The duration of the session will depend on the baby’s mood, and it’s perfectly fine if we need to take breaks for feeding, changing nappies, or simply providing some comforting snuggles in between photos.

When Should I Book A Session?

I recommend booking your newborn session at the beginning of your second trimester. These sessions typically take place 1-3 weeks after your baby’s arrival. To ensure availability, I only accept a limited number of sessions each month. You can book your session based on your due date, and once your baby is born, we’ll coordinate the official session date and time.

I would be honoured to capture your baby’s first photographs in my studio or at the comfort of your home. Get in touch with me here– I’m always happy to answer any questions you have and would love to hear from you.
